Wilderness Adventure
“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.” -John Muir

Valley View offers seasonal day hikes and overnight group camping trips to wilderness areas throughout New England and New York. We visit mountain ranges such as the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Green Mountains of Vermont, mountains throughout Maine, and the High Peaks of the Adirondacks in New York State. The trips will almost always include a service-learning project with the park rangers comprised of community service work that is exchanged for education on subjects such as land management, environmental issues, wildlife, and regional wilderness history. Whenever possible, the trips include a summit experience and other geographical wilderness features such as mountain lakes, gorges, meadows, and forests. Students are challenged on a number of areas such as self care, time management, group decision making, communication, perseverance, and patience to name a few.
