Welcome to Valley View School

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Professionals,

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Valley View. Little did I know when I first started here in the summer of 1999 that my career would grow into what it is today. At 23 years old, I began as a residential counselor working nights and weekends. Since then, I have served as teacher, athletic director, coach, academic director, clinician, associate director, and now, executive director.

I have spent my entire professional life here, and I still look forward to being involved with the students each day. There is something meaningful about seeing firsthand how connection, structure, and belief in a young person’s potential can truly change lives.

At Valley View, we ask a lot of our families. We are challenging long-standing patterns and asking them to step into uncomfortable but transformative work. That process is not easy. It takes time, trust, and a community that is committed to doing what is right for and for every unique family with whom we work.

It also takes a great team. I have had the honor and privilege of working alongside a dedicated group of professionals who bring skill, heart, and humility to this work every single day. Together, we strive to create a place where students and families feel supported, encouraged, and capable of real progress.

We never forget that parents and caregivers are placing immense trust in us when they send their child to Valley View. We take that responsibility seriously, and we remain committed to honoring that trust in everything we do.

Warmly,

Rick May
