Our approach blends clear expectations with empathy, helping boys reset their developmental course and begin making more constructive choices both in the moment and over time.
Valley View’s approach is built on strong relationships, clear expectations, and a community where boys are encouraged to take part in their own growth. Therapy is integrated into all aspects of life on campus, so progress happens not only in scheduled sessions but also in classrooms, dorms, activities, and daily interactions. This model creates an environment where boys are supported, guided, and given opportunities to practice healthier ways of thinking and relating.
Clinicians are present on campus, involved in everyday routines, and collaborate closely with teachers and residential staff. This creates opportunities for in-the-moment work that extends beyond what can be accomplished in a traditional outpatient setting.

A Comprehensive, Developmentally Informed Model
Over the Past Five Decades, Valley View has Supported Adolescent Boys Who May Be:
Emotionally dysregulated or withdrawn
Struggling to engage at home, school, or socially
Facing challenges with identity, motivation, or self-concept
Managing anxiety, trauma, or situational stressors
Lacking consistent adult relationships or accountability

Therapeutic work at Valley View is supported by a collaborative team of therapists who stay engaged in the natural flow of campus life. They share observations, connect with students in meaningful everyday moments, and offer guidance that supports both immediate needs and long-term development. This unified approach helps boys make steady, meaningful progress in an environment that feels structured, encouraging, and responsive to who they are.
Depending on a Student’s Needs, Therapy May Incorporate Methods
Such As:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): to address negative thought patterns and build problem-solving skills
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): to support emotional regulation and distress tolerance
Experiential Therapy: including art, movement, and nature-based activities to help students process emotions in nonverbal ways
Structural Family Therapy: to address patterns within the family system and build healthier communication
Solution-Focused Therapy: to promote actionable steps and recognize progress
Mindfulness-Based Practices: to increase self-awareness, reduce anxiety, and improve present-moment focus
