Learning Accommodations

Valley View serves a wide range of learning needs. Special education instruction is available in reading, writing, and math, using evidence-based programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, Read Naturally, and the Merrill Linguistics Program. Saxon Math is used for students who struggle with math or dyscalculia.

Meeting Students Where They Are, Academically and Emotionally

Making Learning Accessible

Teachers use a range of accommodations and instructional strategies, including:

  • Small-group and one-on-one instruction

  • Multisensory teaching methods

  • Study guides, printed notes, and rubrics

  • Extended time on tests and alternate formats

  • Customized assignments and off-level reading materials

  • Use of assistive technology and audiobooks

  • Purposeful homework assignments with teacher support

  • Study hall takes place after lunch in classrooms with teachers available for individualized academic support. Chromebooks and Google Classroom help students stay organized and manage assignments effectively.

Understanding Our Students

Students may arrive with:

  • ADHD often accompanied by executive functioning difficulties

  • Language-based learning disabilities

  • Nonverbal learning disorders

  • Processing speed and working memory deficits

  • Social anxiety or school-related trauma

  • Gaps due to prolonged absences or school refusal

  • Reading or writing avoidance
