Jay Burnett, BA
Performing Arts & Media Director, Residential Counselor

Jay Burnett has served as the Performing Arts and Media Director and a Residential Counselor at Valley View School since 2012. His work centers on helping students develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively through meaningful participation in performing arts and film projects. Through small group collaboration and team based creative work, Jay supports students in building self confidence, discipline, and social awareness while working toward shared goals.

Jay brings more than twenty years of experience producing, directing, designing, and performing in professional, regional, and community theater. His work has spanned a wide range of settings, from collaborating with Broadway professionals to supporting students stepping on stage for the very first time. For more than a decade, he has guided Valley View students through theater, film, and media projects that encourage creative expression in a positive and productive environment.

At Valley View, Jay and his students have produced main stage theater productions, one act plays, comedic scenes, monologues, and a touring children’s show. He also introduces students to scenic design, offering hands on opportunities to build and paint sets, focus lighting, and run sound. In film and media production, Jay works closely with students to create short films, commercials, movie trailers, news segments, and music videos throughout the year.

Jay is deeply committed to exploring the creative process alongside students and has seen firsthand the powerful impact that participation in performing arts and media can have on personal growth, well being, and happiness. His approach emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and the confidence that comes from seeing an idea come to life.
